Good news for students wishing to study in Canada; New study permit system implemented
According to a global news agency, Canada has announced the implementation of a new policy for study visas for the coming year 2026.
Under this policy, the total number of study permits will be reduced, which is part of the government’s plan to reduce the rate of temporary residents in the country.
Canadian immigration officials said that under this policy, 480,000 foreign students will be welcomed, of which 155,000 will be new while 253,000 will be current or returning students.
This number is 7 percent lower in Canada this year than in 2025 and 16 percent lower than in 2024.
Canadian immigration officials added that this reduction is part of efforts to keep the international student program balanced and in line with national needs.
Another important facility has been introduced for foreign students who will come to Canada for masters or PhDs from January 1, 2026.
Foreign students pursuing masters and PhDs in public educational institutions will be allowed to apply for a study permit without a PAL or TAL letter.
Approximately 49,000 students will directly benefit from this, which aims to promote research fields and domestic innovation.
